Life School began in 1998 to serve students and families in southern Dallas. It is through the vision of the founder, Dr. Tom Wilson, that Life School opened its doors with 15 faculty and staff members serving 266 students at the Oak Cliff campus.
Since its inception over a decade ago, Life School has experienced substantial increases in enrollment. Testimonies from parents to friends, neighbors and co-workers have fueled growth. Today, Life School has grown to nine campuses serving almost six thousand students.
Dr. Wilson’s vision was to provide a quality education and give parents an educational choice regardless of a parent’s ability to pay. He envisioned a tuition-free school with the quality of an expensive private school. After enactment of public charter school legislation, Dr. Wilson realized that a public charter school was the avenue to fulfill this vision. Through the help of friends, educators and other professionals the charter was drafted and approved by the TEA in the spring of 1998, and the doors opened only a few months later in August 1998.
My name is Jennifer Villavaso and I’m honored to be the principal of Life School Carrollton. I’m coming to Life School with 14 years of educational experience and have served in the roles of high school mathematics teacher, an instructional coach, assistant principal, and now Principal. I’ve spent 10 years of those 14 right here in Carrollton, so I’m excited to be returning to serve this community once again.
I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2004. After teaching high school mathematics for 8 years, I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from University of Texas at Arlington in 2012.
I love to learn and aim to continuously grow as a professional. In the same respect, one of my greatest passions is growing others, both students and staff. Life School Carrollton aims to be a collaborative environment filled with educators who are focused on student success and developing the whole student to be a lifelong learner. Ready to Lead! Ready to Learn! Ready for Life! We are a campus that will work hard, but will also enjoy our colleagues’ comradery.
To me it’s all about finding the right fit and being the right fit is being a passionate, dedicated, knowledgeable, and growth-orientated individual. I seek to bring the very best to our families and students we serve.
